Conor Oberst, front man of the indie rock sensation Bright Eyes, says President Donald Trump is "so crazy," that he makes him "nostalgic" for George W. Bush.
"If you can make me nostalgic for George W., you're doing a massive magic trick," Oberst, a prolific singer-songwriter and guitarist, told CNN's #GetPolitical.
He added that he believes Trump is "brainwashing" his supporters by pushing his "fake news" narrative.
"Our disregard for reality is scary ... The thing that I find most upsetting about our current situation is that there's no consensus on reality. Empirical evidence doesn't matter, facts don't matter. Nothing matters to these people.
"It's just this weird cult personality. Everyone always compares [Trump] to a fascist strongman, but I don't think that that's far off ... with his family and his businesses and stuff, he wants to replicate Russian oligarchy in America."
Oberst – who supported Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont in the 2016 presidential election and then Hillary Clinton when she won the Democratic nomination – released "Salutations," a solo album in March.
