Clint Eastwood to Direct Film About 'Miracle on Hudson' Pilot

By    |   Tuesday, 02 June 2015 11:02 PM EDT

Clint Eastwood will direct a film telling the story of Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, the former airline pilot who successfully landed a commercial jet in the Hudson River after it experienced trouble.

Sullenberger Tweeted the news on Tuesday:

Sullenberger's actions on January 15, 2009 saved the lives of all 155 people onboard. The U.S. Airways flight struck a flock of geese shortly after taking off from New York's La Guardia Airport, shutting down both engines.

With no other options, Sullenberger elected to conduct an emergency landing in the Hudson. He was hailed as a national hero and was even invited to, and attended, President Barack Obama's inauguration a few days later.

His memoir, titled "Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters," will be turned into a movie. Screenwriter Todd Komarnicki will write the film version of the book, Mediaite reports.

Eastwood, 85, recently directed the film "American Sniper," which focused on U.S. Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle. The most lethal sniper in U.S. military history, Kyle was killed by a fellow military veteran at a Texas gun range in 2013.
