The Chicago Cubs warmed up for their season opener on Thursday wearing t-shirts adorned with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School logo, the site of a shooting massacre last month.

The back of the shirts had the name of the school and its mascot, while the front was emblazoned with "#MSDStrong."

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo told the Chicago Tribune he's concerned about how easy it is for someone to obtain a gun.

"In a perfect word, make it stricter," Rizzo said of the gun buying process. "Make background checks a little harder to get these guns. I think it's a little too easy to go in there and get a gun. I think the entire nation can agree on that."

Rizzo said he stands with the students who have been protesting for change in recent weeks as the nation looks for ways to reduce the gun violence epidemic.

"I think the nation is listening," he said. "I think there are some politicians that are maybe shaking a little bit, a little nervous. But you've got to keep going.

"I think these kids are standing up for what they believe in."

Fifteen MLB games were scheduled for Thursday, the first day of the season. A handful were postponed because of weather.
