Forty-eight percent of Americans say they or someone in their households have lost employment income during the coronavirus pandemic.
A Census Bureau weekly survey revealed 119 million Americans 18 and older reported losing income since President Donald Trump declared a national emergency over the pandemic on March 13. The survey was detailed in a report on Thursday by The Hill.
A majority of those in households that make less than $100,000 a year reported losing income since mid-March, including substantial majorities of those who make less than $35,000 a year, The Hill noted.
The survey also show that about 10% of Americans said they experienced food scarcity in the last week. And The Hill said more than 42 million Americans have filed unemployment insurance claims in the last 11 weeks.
