Facebook has restored dozens of Catholic pages after it says they were accidentally taken down by a spam detection tool.
The affected sites included 21 Brazilian-based Catholic accounts, such as a Papa Francisco Brazil page, as well as four English sites, according to the National Catholic Reporter.
The sites vanished on July 17, but were restored the next day.
"All pages have now been restored. This incident was triggered accidentally by a spam detection tool. We sincerely apologize for the issue this has caused," a Facebook spokesperson told the religious news site.
One of those affected, Relevant Radio, managed by Father Francis J. Hoffman, who is affectionately known as "Father Rocky" and has 3.95 million likes on Facebook.
"Thanks be to God, I am back on Facebook," said Hoffman, whose site promotes the Catholic faith "by emphasizing the Good, the True, and the Beautiful."
"A faulty spam detector temporarily took down this page for 36 hours. All is well now," Hoffman said.
