Catholic Priest With Ties to Obama Suspended

By    |   Thursday, 28 April 2011 09:58 AM EDT

An activist Catholic priest in Chicago who made headlines when he mocked Hillary Clinton during her presidential campaign has been suspended in a disagreement over a proposed transfer from his South Side parish.

Cardinal Francis George recently offered the Rev. Michael Pfleger the presidency of a Catholic high school near St. Sabina Church.

Pfleger said he would rather leave the Roman Catholic Church than be removed from St. Sabina, where he has been pastor for more than 30 years.

On Wednesday, George wrote to Pfelger, “If that is truly your attitude, you have already left the Catholic Church and are therefore not able to pastor a Catholic parish.”

In 2008, Pfleger was suspended for nearly two weeks after mocking then-Sen. Clinton during her presidential run against the-Sen. Barack Obama.
