New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said he will sign an executive order requiring all “nonessential” businesses closed to help slow the spread of the new coronavirus.

Murphy, at a press briefing, said he would give more details when he signs the order Saturday.

“The only way we’re going to beat this darn virus is if we literally stay home and stay away from each other,” Murphy said at a news conference in Paramus.

The move will follow New York, where Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday ordered all New Yorkers to stay at home for the foreseeable future. The move follows a similar order by California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

In New Jersey, all nonessential businesses must close between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Murphy reported at least 742 positive cases of Covid-19 and nine deaths. The positive numbers have jumped with an increase in testing. A week ago, New Jersey had 50 positive cases.
