The daughter of Martin Luther King Jr. is offering tips on how to oppose President Donald Trump.
Bernice King's comments on the 45th president came in a post to her Facebook page.
"Don't use his name; EVER (45 will do)," she wrote. "Remember this is a regime and he's not acting alone.
"Focus on his policies, not his orange-ness and mental state."
And she cautions critics not to argue with his supporters because "it doesn't work."
She told those who oppose Trump to keep their message positive.
"They want the country to be angry and tearful because this is the soil from which their darkest policies will grow," she says.
Bernice King says people need to refrain for helpless or hope talk and be careful not to spread "fake news."
And she encourages people to "resist."
"Keep demonstrations peaceful," she says. "In the words of John Lennon, 'When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system's game. The establishment will irritate you — pull your beard, flick your face — to make you fight! Because once they've got you violent, then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don't know how to handle is non-violence and humor.'"
Just weeks ago, King had noted that her father would likely have tried to meet with Trump, the Palm Beach Post reported.
"Unlike some people, my father would try to meet with President-elect Trump because he recognized that in order to move the agenda of justice, freedom and equality forward, you can't just protest and resist. You also have to negotiate as well," she said.
