As many as one million bees were removed from a hive that has been inside a Texas church for 25 years.

"This whole thing is probably one massive bee hive," Walter Schumacher told USA Today after removing the hive from inside the walls of the Salem Lutheran Church in Austin on Tuesday.

Known as the "Bee Czar," Schumacher said the hive most likely began high over the church's altar. Over the years, the bees expanded, eventually covering the inside of most of the church's walls.

Parishioners also noticed that they had become more aggressive in recent years.

Schumacher and his crew plan to save parts of the hive and relocate the bees.

"So we'll take those babies to our little ranch in southeast Travis County and we'll feed them basically a bee tea," he told USA Today. "It'll include herbs and flowers."
