Ann Romney says she nearly launched her own candidacy — to win as a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars."
The wife of former Massachusetts governor and two-time presidential candidate Mitt Romney hoped to compete on the smash ABC show where celebrities pair with dance pros and compete against each other.
But ultimately, the 66-year-old grandmother of 18 decided she didn't have the energy.
"They really, really twisted my arm to try to get me to do it," Romney told Julie Mason, host of
"The Press Pool" on SiriusXM Satellite Radio's POTUS channel.
If she had gone ahead, Romney said she would have chosen popular dancer Derek Hough as her partner.
"But he always picks a partner that will win," she added. "He doesn't get the 60-year-old woman. He gets the 20-year-old gold medal figure skater."
Romney is currently promoting her new book,
"In This Together: My Story," published by Thomas Dunne, in which she discusses her struggle with multiple sclerosis.
