Amazon announced Monday it will begin selling audiobooks for dogs.
Audible, an Amazon subsidiary, partnered with Cesar Millan — known as "the dog whisperer" — on the project that involves humans reading titles such as "Pride and Prejudice" and "The Art of Racing in the Rain." Owners can play the audiobooks when they leave their dogs at home.
"Dogs are social animals, so they need to engage with someone and the purpose of Audible for Dogs is to make dogs feel there is someone with them. The person performing the audiobook is actually keeping your dog calm and taking the dog to a resting state, acting as an extension of you," Millan said in a press release.
"I'm excited to work with Audible to continue my mission of educating people on how to foster a calm, happy dog the right way."
Millan provides a video introduction on each of the curated titles for the project, which was inspired by a 2015 study that found audiobooks helped reduce stress in dogs — more so than music.
Another recent study confirmed the long-held belief dogs help kids cope with stress.
