The first 100 days of President Donald Trump's administration have been the best first 100 days of any president's administration for the pro-life movement, Alveda King and Father Frank Pavone wrote in a column for the Washington Examiner.
King and Pavone said that Trump's biggest accomplishment for the pro-life movement was defeating Hillary Clinton for the presidency.
The president kept promises to champion pro-life causes, King and Pavone wrote, by nominating Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.
Gorsuch ruled against the Obama administration's contraceptive mandate when he was an appeals court judge, they noted.
King, the niece of Martin Luther King, Jr. is the director of Civil Rights for the Unborn and Pavone is the national director of Priests for Life, a group of ministries that supports the pro-life and anti-abortion movement.
The pair praised Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for removing the filibuster from the Senate, which would allow future Supreme Court nominees to be confirmed by majority vote, "ending the filibuster threats of senators who side with the abortion lobby."
King and Pavone said they anticipate that Trump might someday name a woman to the Supreme Court who is a pro-life supporter.
After the first 100 days, "we can't wait to see what the next 1,361 will bring," they wrote, referring to the remainder of Trump's presidential term.
Both King and Pavone have been frequent supporters of the president.
"As a Christian African-American woman who is 50-plus years of age who is also a concerned mother and grandmother, I am grateful to say that President Trump has allayed many of my concerns," King said in a statement on Thursday.
