Former Rep. Aaron Schock, the Illinos Republican who resigned earlier this year amid allegations of improper spending of federal and campaign funds, has paid a staggering amount in legal fees.
Schock's third quarter filing with the Federal Elections Commission shows he paid $901,000 to nine law firms. He still owes another firm $747,000.
The third-quarter filing represents money spent between July 1 and September 30. Schock also spent $1.05 million on legals fees in the second quarter of the year,
The Huffington Post reports.
Schock's campaign chest still has $1.1 million in it after the $1.9 million in payouts.
His use of campaign funds to pay legal fees isn't illegal and has been done by other officeholders.
But he is facing legal issues over his use of taxpayer money for what has been criticized as a high lifestyle. The 34-year-old decorated his congressional office to reflect the television show "Downton Abbey" and was questioned over trips to the Super Bowl, the Country Music Awards and other trips.
He also hired a professional photographer to take photos for his Instagram account that showed him surfing.
