Trafalgar Square was evacuated in London on Thursday afternoon after a suspicious package was discovered about 2:40 p.m.
The reported package was found next to St. Martin-in-the-Fields church on Duncannon Street, The Telegraph reported, adding that Scotland Yard was called and the authorities quickly closed off the area.
The Daily Mail pointed out that the incident comes five days after three attackers killed eight people by driving a van at pedestrians and then stabbing people in the London Bridge area on Saturday. Metropolitan Police also closed Charing Cross train station.
Authorities were already on watch Thursday with millions voting in the country's general election from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., the Daily Mail noted. Prime Minister Theresa May, of the Conservatives, also known as the Tories, is running to keep her seat against the left-leaning Labour Party's Jeremy Corbyn, The Hill newspaper reported.
Some shared their photos and comments about the closing on social media.
