Conor McGregor's bus attack has been spun into cage fighting promotional gold, with hype videos released Friday at a UFC news conference using the incident to create advertising for the main UFC 229 event.
It was months ago that the mixed martial artist was charged with assault after he and some members of his entourage hurled chairs and dollies at a bus carrying cage fighters at the Barclay Center in New York City.
McGregor was facing felony charges and potential jail time and UFC president Dana White called the incident "the most disgusting thing that ever happened" in the UFC.
However, the fighter dodged a bullet when he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to five days of community service.
UFC scheduled McGregor's return to the fight business opposite lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who faces "Notorious" on Oct. 6 in Las Vegas, and White was backtracking on the severity of the bus attack, MMA Mania noted.
Now the UFC is using the attack to create hype in its promotional videos, but as Ben Fowlkes writing for MMA Junkie pointed out, the incident was vigorously condemned while McGregor escaped any punishment from the UFC.
"So how come no one in power at the UFC is treating it as anything other than good promo material?" Fowlkes wondered.
