KFC restaurants in the U.K. are now facing a gravy shortage just days after many restaurants there closed temporarily because they ran out of chicken.
Parent company Yum! Brands blamed new supplier DHL for both the earlier chicken shortages and the current lack of gravy.
“Due to the ongoing distribution challenges DHL is experiencing, some restaurants are continuing to serve a reduced menu,” a Yum! spokesman said, the New York Daily News reported. “We’re working as hard as we can to get this sorted out. We know that our gravy is a big favorite!”
Last week, 700 of the U.K.’s 900 KFC locations closed for one or a few days when they ran out of chicken to serve customers.
The gravy problem appears to be less widespread, with CNN reporting KFC said in a statement, “Gravy is available in the vast majority of our restaurants but a few may not have it owing to the ongoing distribution challenges DHL is experiencing.”
Last week, KFC put a full-page ad in many newspapers with an apology for the chicken shortage shutdowns. The ad showed an empty red bucket with the letters FCK on it, to show the chain had messed up.
Twitter followers were quite distressed about the lack of gravy to go with the chicken, mashed potatoes, and other items well beloved by KFC patrons.
