Homeless Man Resumes: Job Offers Pour In After Tweet Goes Viral

By    |   Monday, 30 July 2018 11:24 AM EDT

A homeless man handing out resumes at an intersection in Mountain View, California, last week has already received hundreds of job offers from massive companies.

David Casarez, 26, had nothing else to lose when he got up Friday morning, put on a suit and tie, and stood on a highway holding up a sign that read: "Homeless. Hungry 4 Success. Take a Resume."

Having moved to California last September armed with a college degree, a decent amount of work experience as a web developer, and a dream to establish his own start-up, Casarez was determined to build a successful life for himself.

"If you want to come out here and play with the big dogs, this is where you have to be," he said, according to NBC Bay Area.

Unfortunately, he underestimated the cost of living and, unable to find a job, Casarez was unable to stay afloat.

For a while he lived in his van but lost it last month after not being able to make the payments on it.

Since then he has been sleeping in the park.

On Friday he decided to give it one last shot and set off with his handmade sign and a stack of resumes.

"It was basically a make-or-break moment," he told the New York Post. "I was thinking, you know, like this was like my last stop. If this didn’t work, I’d go back home and give up on my dream."

In a twist of fate, local resident Jasmine Scofield happened to pass by him on the road and snapped a photo, which she posted to Twitter.

"Today I saw this young homeless man asking for people to take a resume rather than asking for money," she said, urging people in Silicon Valley to help him out.

The tweet went viral and, within days, the job offers were streaming in.

"Google reached out to me," Casarez told the New York Post, adding that so many other companies, including several start-ups, had also reached out to him.

"A product manager from Bitcoin.com was wondering if I could work remotely or if I want to relocate to Tokyo," he said.

It is all happening very suddenly and Casarez said he's in shock.

"I wasn’t expecting that kind of response. It kinda blew up."

According to the Silicon Valley Index, Silicon Valley has experienced a massive population surge over the last few years. Rising housing and living costs is making life difficult for many, according to The Mercury News.

This was highlighted in the news recently, when a 897-square-foot home with two bedrooms in Silicon Valley made headlines because of its asking price of $2.59 million.

The selling price only emphasized what the actual median home value of residences in Palo Alto is today — $3.31 million, up 17.8 percent over the past year.

Furthermore, the median price for rent is $5,950 per month and $3,600 in the surrounding San Jose metropolitan area
