"Ghetto" skin talk has brought Twitter down on “Big Brother,” with users accusing contestants of being racist after they made controversial remarks about skin color Monday night on the show's 24/7 live feed.
Season 20 cast members Angela Rummans and Rachel Swindler were discussing their tans when the comments were made.
"My stomach is as dark as Bay," said Swindler, who was comparing her tan to African-American roommate Bayleigh Dayton, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
"I can't be in the sun for two days straight. … I will change ethnicities. I already have," she said, to which Rummans responded: "I'm looking ghetto here with the skin coloration."
It was not long before Twitter was buzzing as disgruntled fans vented.
This comes days after another fellow housemate, J.C. Mounduix, came under fire for inappropriately touching other cast members with an ice cream scooper.
TMZ posted video footage on its website, which prompted outraged fans to protest on Twitter.
CBS addressed the issue with a generalized statement on Tuesday.
"’Big Brother’ is a reality show about watching a group of people who have no privacy 24/7 -- and capturing every unfiltered moment and conversation in their lives,” is read, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“At times, the houseguests reveal prejudices and exhibit behavior that we do not condone. The producers have addressed two such incidents that were seen recently on the 24/7 online feed. In both cases, those involved have been warned about their inappropriate behavior and offensive comments, as well as future consequences. These events will not be part of any future ‘Big Brother’ broadcast on CBS.”
