Demi Lovato has stunned fans by shaving her head. The "Sorry Not Sorry" hitmaker caused a stir earlier this week when she died her luscious brown locks blonde, and on Wednesday, she took it a step further by cropping her newly blonde hair in an undercut.
"I did a thing," the 28-year-old pop icon captioned a photograph showing the back of her semi-bald head.
The new style had fans speculating whether Lovato was following in Miley Cyrus' footsteps. Like Lovato, Cyrus established herself first as a Disney star before shedding her good-girl image by shaving her hair in a similar do just in time for the release of her album "Bangerz."
Lovato is working on her seventh album and fans are wondering if the change in hairstyle could tie in with its pending release, or at the very least hint at a new, edgier sound. Lovato's photographer, Angelo Kritikos, confirmed that the hairdo was the start of a new era, although whether that applies to Lovato's music or personal life is to be debated.
"Already obsessed with this new era," Kritikos wrote in an Instagram post.
Lovato's wardrobe stylist, Siena Montesano, echoed the sentiment on social media.
"And to the next chapter..." she captioned the same image on Instagram.
Lovato's shaved head comes weeks after calling it quits with Max Ehrich two months after getting engaged. A source said at the time that it was something they needed to do for their careers.
"It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers," the insider said. "They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together."
