Britney Spears Enters Rehab After DUI Arrest

By    |   Monday, 13 April 2026 11:00 AM EDT

Britney Spears has checked into a treatment facility following her recent arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

A representative for the singer confirmed to People on Sunday that the 44-year-old entered the facility voluntarily.

The news comes after Spears was arrested March 4 in Ventura, California, on suspicion of DUI. She was released the next day.

In a statement shared with People at the time, her representative described the incident as "completely inexcusable" and said Spears planned to take responsibility moving forward.

"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time," the statement read. "Her boys are going to be spending time with her.

"Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being."

Spears shares two sons, Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline, with her former husband Kevin Federline.

In recent years, her personal life has drawn increased attention, particularly following the end of her conservatorship in 2021 and ongoing concerns over her social media posts.

Federline, 48, addressed those concerns in his 2025 memoir "You Thought You Knew," writing: "It's become impossible to pretend everything's OK. From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we're getting close to the 11th hour," he wrote.

"Something bad is going to happen if things don't change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces."

In an October interview with Entertainment Tonight, Federline said he was "really worried" about Spears.

"I kinda have to sound the alarm that I truly feel that somehow, someway, I just wish that their mom would get help," he said about their sons.

A representative for Spears later released a statement, saying her children and their "well-being during this sensationalism" are "all she cares about."

Spears has previously spoken about some of the most difficult moments in her past.

In her 2023 memoir "The Woman in Me," she described two psychiatric holds in 2008, including an incident in which she locked herself in a bathroom with Jayden Federline.

She wrote that she "didn't want anyone taking [her] baby," and was "feeling desperate to keep my own children for a few more hours."

The episode contributed to Kevin Federline later being awarded sole custody of their children.

In the same memoir, Spears wrote about the lasting impact of the conservatorship that governed her life for more than a decade before it ended in 2021.

"This is what's hard to explain, how quickly I could vacillate between being a little girl and being a teenager and being a woman, because of the way they had robbed me of my freedom," she wrote. "The woman in me was pushed down for a long time."

She has also spoken about her ongoing recovery, previously saying she is on the "right medication" and that she "still needs lots of healing."

In a 2022 video discussing her past, she said: "I was scared, broken, [and] I'm sharing this because I want people to know I'm only human," according to People. "I do feel victimized after these experiences and how can I mend this if I don't talk about it?"
