A 6-year-old Washington state boy has saved more than 1,000 dogs from being euthanized at high-kill shelters, prompting one person to observe, “Heroes come in all sizes!!”
Less than two years ago, Roman McConn launched Project Freedom Ride with the help of his mother Jennifer McConn, according to Q13 Fox. The goal is to transport at-risk dogs from Texas to the Pacific Northwest, where they could be placed for adoption.
Roman used videos posted to social media to introduce the adoptable canines to prospective owners looking for a furry companion.
"This is our foster dog Ru. We’re trying to get her adopted," he explained while petting the dog in a Facebook video. "She's deaf and she's been through two homes. We really want her in a home where she won't bounce back and forth again."
It didn’t take long before Roman received a response from someone who wanted to adopt Ru.
Roman’s crusade was prompted by a dog adoption event he witnessed when the family lived in Texas. He was just 4 years old at the time.
“He kept asking why they were there and I would tell him, 'They're looking for homes.' In that 4-year-old mind, he's like, 'We just need to find them homes,'" Jennifer told Q13 Fox.
Roman's quest has attracted the attention of many people, even celebrities. Blogger Perez Hilton tweeted:
