A dog that was "too nice" for one owner was the perfect pet for another family that took sympathy on the 4-year-old pup after she was returned to an Atlanta animal shelter, Inside Edition noted.

Helena was adopted late last year after being picked up as a stray by the LifeLine Animal Project but her new owners returned the dog last week, claiming she "just wanted to be around them all the time," the animal shelter said on Facebook.

It was not long before Helena earned herself the nickname "Velcro Dog."

"She sticks to your side like Velcro," Karen Hirsch, public relations director for the shelter said, per Today.

"She just sat on a staff member's feet thunking her tail on the floor. She just wants attention. If you stop petting her, she will request you continue."

Hirsch said that the dog's owner was looking for a guard dog but when Helena failed to display the vicious characteristics expected from her power breed, he decided to return her.

"The man who returned her said she was too nice," Hirsch told The Dodo.

"It was obvious the gentleman was looking for a guard dog. He also suggested she be adopted by a woman 'because they are more into that petting stuff.'"

One man's loss is another's gain though.

After sharing the story to Facebook, the LifeLine Animal Project received various offers from families wanting to adopt Helena.

"We know there's a family out there waiting to spend their nights binge-watching Netflix and snuggling with this sweet velvet hippo," the post read.

Two days later the dog found her forever home.

"She is doing terrific and has found the family of her dreams," Hirsch told People.

"So nice guys do finish first!"
