One by One, They Fall Before Trump

Sid Dinerstein By Friday, 18 March 2016 11:37 AM EDT Current | Bio | Archive

John Kasich, you're next! And so it goes. The Republican establishment finds a never ending line of suckers to do its presidential bidding, unaware that they are doomed to fail.

Indeed, some of those fails are career ending because the establishment taint seldom washes off. Who is the establishment? The four Rs: Romney, Ryan, Rove, and Reince (Priebus). What is the establishment? Basically it is a group of elected and self appointed party leaders who think that voters aren't smart enough to be trusted with real decisions.

Romney, 2012 presidential nominee, saved his most passionate speech for his real enemy, Donald Trump. Ryan is the new speaker of the house, the most recent Republican “tax collector for the welfare state.” (Thanks, Newt).

Rove is the midwife of illegal immigration. Reince is the chairman of the RNC, the establishment man with no fingerprints.

Together they are the body snatchers. They take successful, gifted Republican politicians, substitute the establishment agenda for the voters' agenda, and send them off to be chewed up and spit out.

Who would fall for this career ending scam? Anyone who never took a math class. Yes, establishment Republicans can't count and are therefore easy prey. Here's the sales pitch: Sign on to the establishment agenda and have little or no competition and 50 percent of the primary vote. Let the “insurgents” fight over the other 50 percent. There's one of you and three or four of the others. Easy win. What could possibly go wrong?

I'll tell you what. Having two wings to a party does not mean they are 50-50. Indeed, in 2016 they're 10-90 in favor of the Insurgents. But if you never took a math class you keep expecting 50-50.

Jeb Bush was a great governor. High energy, forceful, confrontational; he took on the editorial boards, the trial lawyers, the teachers union, the pro-choicers and the big spenders.

The taxes got lower, the schools got better and the Sunshine State was brighter than ever. Then the body snatchers got him.

They moved him to the left; Common Core instead of school choice, illegal immigration instead of the rule of law, going through the motions instead of passion driven reforms. Jeb Bush threw his hat in the Presidential ring. He raised $100 million and went to the top of the polls. He crashed, early and hard.

He stayed in too long and spent too much, enriching the establishment campaign managers so they could live to lose another day. Our once great governor was reduced to low energy, single digit Jeb; a shadow of his former self. Another victory for the body snatchers.

Rubio, Rubio, wherefore art thou, Rubio? Marco Rubio was the best and the brightest. He was the tea party's biggest success.

I know him. I helped him. I watched him, in both directions. Marco Rubio is a U.S. senator because the establishment went all in for his opponent, Gov. Charlie Crist. Charlie started with a 37 percent lead until the voters figured out who was the establishment (Charlie) and who was the insurgent (Marco).

Charlie's numbers dropped so fast he left the party before he could lose the primary. That's the power of insurgency and the burden of the status quo. When Jeb dropped out the establishment dropped their 50 percent bait in front of Marco. He bit.

His primary numbers immediately went from the low 20s to the high single digits. He should have gone to math class. In the super Super Tuesday five state primary, outside of his home state (Florida), Marco never hit 10 percent. Marco, we hardly knew you.

John Kasich, you're next!

John Kasich has a great resume. He balanced Bill Clinton's budget. He made money in the private sector. He's a very credible governor of Ohio. He is conservative, church going, soft-spoken and polite. So after Jeb bit and got hammered and Marco bit and got hammered the body snatchers were down to one potential candidate, John Kasich. They gave him the 50 percent sucker pitch (with Trump and Cruz splitting the other 50 percent). And he bit. He's over. He got drubbed in Midwestern Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Illinois.

He'll get routed in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey right before his campaign checks into Hotel California, where “you can never leave.” His body has already been snatched. He just gave up the Constitution for amnesty and a balanced budget for expanded Medicaid.

There's no next after John Kasich. There are just leftover losers, whining about their lack of influence. Indeed, to hear the four Rs tell it: The older they get, the better they were. Get out of the way, guys. It's time to “make America great again.”
