Forty-nine percent (49%) of American adults
believe home broadband service is essential. Pew Research found that another 41 percent believe it is important but not essential.
Among those who do not currently have broadband service, 36 percent consider it essential.
Seventy percent of Americans believe local governments should be allowed to build their own high-speed networks to expand broadband coverage. However, only 44 percent believe that government should subsidize the cost of broadband access for low-income Americans.
Despite the growing importance of broadband services, nearly half (47 percent) of all broadband users do not know the download speed of their own service.
