Google to Stop Redirecting China Users

Google has announced that it will cease forwarding users in mainland Chinese to its uncensored Hong Kong site.

The move is reportedly to ease tensions with Beijing -- as Google looks to renew its license to operate in China, according to a report in the New York Times.

Google's clever way to continue to operate in the country by automatically redirecting Chinese users to google.com.hk had come under fire from the Chinese government.

The latest Gooogle concession comes as Beijing signalled it was ready to reject Google’s application for renewal of its Internet content provider license -- meaning a total shut down of its Web site in the country.
