NFL's Goodell Never Learns

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is evidently a weak man, subject to peer pressure and with significant memory problems. Less than four years ago the NFL was in trouble with the public.

Mega-egoed and marginally talented quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided that adopting Angela Davis’ hairdo and anti-American sentiments would be good career moves.

He began taking a knee during the National Anthem to protest the usual laundry list of leftist racial grievances. Nothing attracts former college attendees like animus for the United States, so naturally other NFL players began mimicking Kaepernick.

That wasn’t popular with the large segment of the NFL audience who loves their country.

As we wrote here, viewers were turning away from the NFL in large numbers. The Undefeated reported that ratings for NFL games were down by 11 percent in week four.

Viewer complaints were so vociferous that Direct TV was even allowing NFL package subscribers to drop that portion of their subscription without penalty.

Team owners faced the prospect of refunding money to advertisers since the games weren’t drawing the number of viewers promised.

Goodell finally acted; taking a knee practically disappeared. Ratings recovered.

That was pre-George Floyd.

Now players are once again trying to be racially relevant and convince viewers a nation twice electing a black man president is irretrievably racist.

Meanwhile, the NBA has decided that putting" social justice" phrases where the player’s name usually goes on the jersey is just the ticket. The lengthy approved list includes, "Black Lives Matter," "I Can't Breathe," "Power to the People," and "How Many More?"

For some reason "Bow to Our Chinese Overlords" didn’t make the list.

Goodell has evidently decided this is just the time for the NFL to poke its thumb in the eye of its audience — again. First, he elbowed his way on the BLM bandwagon by publicly taking a knee in support of an organization that contends the country that made Goodell rich is racist to its core. Then he issued this cringy and false Tweet, "We, the NFL, condemn racism and the systematic oppression of Black People."

Then with the sense of timing that has made Goodell famous, he publicly announces he "hopes" some team will sign Kaepernick to a contract, just before Mr. Disgruntled denounces the Fourth of July as a "celebration of White Supremacy," one he categorically rejects.

Not content to quit while there is still hope for the league, Goodell continues to act like a 19-year-old grievance studies major at Oberlin College. First, as if the public wasn’t divided enough, the league will play the so-called "black national anthem" before our country's real national anthem.

Finally, in a move that may place the league on suicide watch along with Ghislaine Maxwell, Goodell is considering allowing players to decals on their helmets to protest "systemic racism" and "police brutality."

In 2016 the league lost viewers and revenue when players decided on their own to insult the country making them rich. What does genius Goodell think the reaction from NFL fans and viewers will be when the league itself endorses the lie that the United States of America is a racist country where police run wild oppressing the public?
