The Lundberg report, a survey of 10,000 gas stations across the United States, showed prices were averaging $1.52 for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline as of Dec. 1. That is down 2 cents a gallon, compared to two weeks ago.
Of the price, 43 cents consisted of assorted local, state and federal taxes.
Trilby Lundberg, publisher of the report, said a weaker demand for gasoline during the winter, when people drive less, was responsible for the price drop, along with slightly lower prices for crude oil.
The report indicated gasoline was most expensive in Honolulu, with an average of $1.92 a gallon. Lowest gasoline prices in the Unites States were in Wichita, Kan., where they averaged $1.32.
By comparison, the American Automobile Association on Monday noted an average price of $1.53 a gallon, down from $1.56 a gallon last month.
The AAA survey showed the highest gasoline prices in Hawaii, at $2.02, and the lowest gasoline prices in Georgia, at $1.38.
