Sean Sweeney will receive a hero's salute at a ceremony in the office of the Bureau of Emergency Communications at the state capital in Concord.
"I am so proud of him. I call him my little hero," Heidi Sweeney, Sean's mother, said in Thursday's Manchester Union Leader.
Sweeney, who suffers from asthma, had a gallbladder attack on the evening of Nov. 27 and passed out. Taught for more than a year what to do in an emergency, Sean immediately picked up the telephone and dialed 911, according to Wanda Hemeon of the New Hampshire Emergency Bureau.
Nancy Badger, the operator on duty at that time, recalled a composed 4-year-old calmly saying, "My mom fell down." Asked if his mother was awake, Sean said, "Nope, her eyes are closed."
Sean was instructed to stay on the telephone until an ambulance arrived. Meanwhile, he politely answered questions. Queried about how old he was, Sean said, "Four. I was 3, and then I had a birthday, and now I'm 4."
At one point, instructed by Badger, the boy sought unsuccessfully to awaken his mother. She finally regained consciousness before the ambulance arrived.
Heidi Sweeney has since recovered from her attack and will join her son in the salute.
