A Milwaukee election official received assistance from police early Wednesday as she delivered more than 169,000 absentee ballot results, The Hill reports.
Claire Woodall-Vogg, executive director of the Milwaukee Election Commission, told reporters that she had a police escort accompany her as she delivered the results of absentee ballots collected in the city of Milwaukee.
Election officials worked into the early morning hours of Wednesday to process the ballots, but the Milwaukee county clerk said results wouldn't be expected until early morning, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
"We finished right when I predicted that we’d finish, and did it with accuracy and transparency," Woodall-Vogg told reporters about the votes while traveling to the local courthouse.
She left the city’s central count facility just after 3 a.m. local time. She arrived at the county courthouse shortly after, according to local media on the scene.
President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden are in a close race in the state of Wisconsin. Wisconsin will give the winner 10 electoral votes. Biden led Trump by about 10,000 votes out of more than 3 million ballots counted so far in the state early Wednesday. According to Milwaukee County’s website, there were 317,251 votes for Biden and 134,355 votes cast for Trump.
The state Democratic Party predicts Milwaukee will go to Biden.
“Based on everything we’ve seen, those ballots will decisively favor Biden. Green Bay hasn’t reported any results yet. When all votes are counted, we’re confident that Joe Biden will win Wisconsin,” state Democratic Party Chairman Ben Wikler tweeted.
