President Donald Trump will be "willing to sign" a bipartisan bill to protect those in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and to strengthen border security, if it's put on his desk, a Republican congressman said Friday.

"I think whatever this body, both houses, put on the president's desk is ultimately something that he's going to be willing to sign, and so I think it's up to us," Rep. Will Hurd, R-Texas, said on MSNBC's Morning Joe" alongside Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., on Friday.

Earlier this week, Hurd and Aguilar led a group of 40 lawmakers in introducing the United and Securing America Act, which would create a way for Dreamers to obtain citizenship "while achieving operational control of the border," as Hurd said on Tuesday.

"My philosophy is simple, Hurd continued. "Put together smart legislation. Do it in a bipartisan way. Do something that actually solves the problem. This is straightforward, strong security and it solves a problem for 1.2 million kids contributing to our economy, our culture and our history.

Solve these problems and if other folks have good ideas that can be worked out in a bipartisan way and get through both houses, let's talk about this. But this was designed to be a foundation to do something smart and ultimately get it to the president's desk.

"I'm not the one responsible for deciding whether this legislation gets signed or not, but let's do something smart in a way to make it happen."
