Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross on Thursday said the left-wing media has "no alternative but to make up fiction" about the success of the tax cuts legislation, but that facts will eventually win the day.
Ross made the comments during an interview with Fox Business' "Mornings With Maria" show from the Davos global economic summit in Switzerland alongside Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
The media "have no alternative but to make up fiction. But eventually facts overcome fiction," Ross told host Maria Bartiromo. "And I think the fella that just got a $1,000 check doesn't care what the left-wing media says. And the person who gets a tax cut in the next withholding, he or she is also not gonna care what the left-wing media says.
"One of the best things for consumer spending is something approaching two million American workers who got thousand dollar bonuses in January — specifically because of the tax bill," Ross said. "Who would ever have thought that, that would happen?"
Mnuchin said the tax cut bill is mission accomplished for President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans.
"Last year when we were talking about 3 percent GDP, everybody lined up and said we were crazy, that the economy couldn't grow higher than 2 percent, given the size of the economy and where we were," Mnuchin said.
"So now we're at 3 percent GDP. And we're going to be at sustained 3 percent GDP or higher, and it's called the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, because this was about creating American jobs and that's what this is all about," Mnuchin said.
