Three White House officials looking to exit in the coming weeks are now considering staying through the confirmation of a new Supreme Court justice, ABC News reported.
White House counsel Don McGahn, legislative affairs director Marc Short and domestic policy director Andrew Bremberg have all signaled they plan to leave, but will stick around to see through a process to determine a successor for the retiring Anthony Kennedy, the news outlet reported.
McGahn's team will lead the confirmation process.
"He's excited for it," one unnamed source told ABC News. "This is what he's been working for all along."
Short is expected to stay on until Oct. 1 to help coordinate with Senate offices, ABC News reported.
"It's kind of like of domino," Short told the outlet about the process, though he declined to comment on his status.
"In July we'll be making sure the proper papers were assembled that senators will ask for, and then in August we will be consumed with individual meetings. Hopefully them being here in August – we'd like to assume the hearing by the end of the summer."
"We're trying to aim to have the new court in place by October 1," he said.
