The White House sent Republicans in Congress a memo containing talking points about President Donald Trump's assessment of the weekend violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The memo instructed Republicans to say Trump was "entirely correct" in his statement about the happenings in Charlottesville, according to CBS News, who obtained a copy of the memo.

"The President was entirely correct — both sides of the violence in Charlottesville acted inappropriately, and bear some responsibility," read the memo's first talking point.

Other bullet points discussed Trump: "He has been a voice for unity and calm, encouraging the country to "rediscover the bonds of love and loyalty that brings us together as Americans."

The memo also slammed the media: "The President condemned the hate groups fueled by bigotry and racism over the weekend, and did so by name yesterday, but for the media that will never be enough."

"We should not overlook the facts just because the media finds them inconvenient," the memo said.

The Atlantic published the full text of the memo Tuesday night.

A number of Republicans did not repeat the memo's talking points, including U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

McCain tweeted Tuesday:

In a series of six tweets Tuesday, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said that the "old evil" of white supremacy could not be allowed to return.
