During President Donald Trump's heated news conference Tuesday on the Charlottesville violence, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly was photographed staring at the floor of Trump Tower with his arms crossed.

Here is a tweet posted by Kristin Donnelly of NBC News:

The session quickly degenerated into a rapid-fire showdown between reporters and the president, where he defended his initial comments on the violence that killed a Charlottesville woman and injured 19 other people.

"You look at both sides," Trump said in one angry exchange. "I think there is blame to project on both sides.

"I have no doubt about it," he said. "You don't have doubt about it, either.

"If you reported it accurately, you would say that."

Kelly, a Marine general and former commander, was Homeland Security secretary before Trump tapped him July 28 to replace Reince Priebus, who had resigned the day before.

He was seen the "last hope" to bring order to the White House staff, CNBC reports.

Kelly was also lauded as a "beacon of discipline," according to news reports.
