A new
Morning Consult poll released Thursday finds that most voters do not believe Donald Trump's claim that he's worth $10 billion, with only 20 percent of voters believing his net worth is that high.
Voters were asked to guess the real estate mogul's net worth, and by the numbers:
- Less than $1 million: 3 percent
- $10 million: 4 percent
- $100 million: 6 percent
- $500 million: 7 percent
- $1 billion: 10 percent
- $5 billion: 13 percent
- $10 billion: 11 percent
- $50 billion or more: 9 percent
- Don't know or have no opinion: 37 percent
Voters were also asked to guess Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton's net worth. According to
Forbes, Clinton's net worth is $45 million, while
MoneyNation estimates her worth at $31.3 million.
What voters think of Clinton's net worth:
- Less than $1 million: 5 percent;
- $10 million: 16 percent;
- $100 million: 16 percent;
- $500 million: 9 percent;
- $1 billion: 4 percent;
- $5 billion: 3 percent;
- $10 billion: 2 percent;
- $50 billion or more: 2 percent;
- Don't know or have no opinion: 43 percent.
By party lines, Republicans were most likely to guess Trump is worth more than $1 billion, while Democrats guessed Clinton is worth more than $100 million.
Half of the Republicans believe the billionaire developer is worth more than $1 billion, while 41 percent of Democrats guessed the same.
Forty-four percent of Republicans guessed Clinton is worth more than $100 million, but only 31 percent of Democrats guessed that.
The national poll of 2,572 voters was conducted on May 24-30, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
