President Donald Trump on Friday praised Senate Republicans for their resolution condemning the impeachment probe by the "do-nothing" House Democrats, declaring that their sole motive is because "they cannot win at the ballot box."
"I appreciate the support of Senator @LindseyGraham, @SenateMajLdr Mitch McConnell, and their great Senate Republican colleagues, on the resolution condemning the do-nothing Democrats for their witch hunt impeachment inquiry, behind closed doors in the basement of the United States Capitol!" Trump said in one of two Twitter posts.
"They cannot win at the ballot box," the president continued in the other post. "Their sham for the past three years continues.
"The good news is that the American people get it, which will be proven once again on Nov. 3, 2020!"
Fifty of the 53 Senate Republicans endorsed a nonbinding resolution introduced Thursday by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., condemning the House's "illegitimate impeachment inquiry" and demanding that GOP members be given more chances to question witnesses.
The move came as President Trump urged Republicans to fight harder for him amid the impeachment probe.
However, three Republicans did not endorse the resolution: Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Mitt Romney of Utah.
Earlier Friday, Graham tweeted the names of the senators backing his resolution:
