COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — New campaign finance reports show Republican John Kasich (KAY'-sik) has more cash on hand to spend than the Democratic incumbent in the final days of Ohio's governor race — though both still have millions.
Kasich on Thursday reported more than $4 million on hand ahead of the Nov. 2 election, compared with $3.1 million for Gov. Ted Strickland.
Strickland reported spending $10.8 million compared with Kasich's $8.9 million.
Strickland's campaign says his report includes spending to a date later than Ohio law requires and that the governor had about $5 million during the period Kasich used.
Kasich slightly outraised Strickland during the most recent reporting period — which covered a little more than two weeks. Kasich gathered about $1.5 million in contributions, compared with the roughly $1.2 million that Strickland raised.
