Mass. Sen. Hopefuls Working to Get Voters to Polls

Sunday, 06 December 2009 01:36 PM EST

BOSTON -- Forget the ads, debates and endorsements.

Come Tuesday's primary, the only thing that matters for the candidates vying for the late Edward Kennedy's Senate seat is getting their voters to the polls.

A strong field operation is all the more critical given the odd timing of the primary in early December.

Each of the four Democratic candidates _ Attorney General Martha Coakley, U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano, Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca and City Year co-founder Alan Khazei _ are working hard to turn out their voters.

State Sen. Scott Brown of Wrentham and Duxbury attorney Jack E. Robinson are competing for the Republican nomination. The two meet for their final forum Monday on WGBH's Greater Boston.

The special election is Jan. 19.
