U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said Monday that this week, National Guard troops will begin their deployment along the U.S.-Mexico border.
"This is going to be a big week for National Guard deployments across the border states," McAleenan told Fox News, according to The Washington Examiner.
"We're seeing significant arrivals starting today, based on the planning effort we've engaged in with [the Department of Defense] over the past couple of weeks.”
He added that President Donald Trump’s much-discussed wall is “under construction” in “multiple areas.”
According to Security magazine, McAleenan told members of Congress last week, "What the National Guard is going to do is bring significant aviation assets that can close our gap for that surveillance piece at the immediate border. It is supportive but it also tells us what's crossing so we can interdict."
