President Donald Trump is taking credit for the successful joint bid for the U.S., Canada and Mexico to host the 2026 World Cup.
In a tweet Friday morning, Trump wrote:
Although Trump thanked New England Patriots owner for his “excellent advice,” he did not mention his senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who has been reportedly taking credit for the bid as well, according to Politico.
Kushner is "very pumped," one unnamed source told Politico. “First time I’ve heard him genuinely happy in over a year.”
White House spokesman Hogan Gidley told Politico that “President Trump directed a team, led by Jared Kushner, to help secure America’s place in history serving as a host along with Canada and Mexico."
