Twitter’s mass purge of suspicious or inactive accounts has cost Mitt Romney tens of thousands of accounts.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that @MittRomney, the Twitter handle of the Utah Republican Senate hopeful has been stripped of more than, 76,000 followers.

The social media giant has been deleting millions of accounts that are "locked" because of suspicious behavior, such as tweeting a masses of unsolicited replies, or inactivity. It’s part of a campaign to cut down on fake followers and boost accuracy and transparency on the platform.

While Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts and two time GOP presidential candidatem lost supporters, his Democratic rival in Utah, Jenny Wilson, added six followers to her @JennyWilsonUT account.
