President Donald Trump says ratings for the White House briefings are “through the roof” and that his opponents are doing “everything in their power to disparage and end them.”
But the “Do Nothing Democrats” and the “Radical Left” that Trump called out on Twitter are not the only ones concerned that the briefings are hurting him more than helping him.
The New York Times reports members of Trump’s administration and his allies are encouraging him to let medical experts take over the briefings.
Sen. Lindsey Graham told the newspaper Trump can “sometimes drowns out his own message.” He said he suggested the president hold a “once-a-week show” and warned him that his opponent in the upcoming election is “no longer Joe Biden — it’s this virus.”
Rep. Susan Brooks of Indiana said the briefings “going on too long.” Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia said the briefings were “going off the rails a little bit.”
Trump's appearances on Wednesday and Thursday were brief. The focus was on reports made by Vice President Mike Pence, Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx.
