Sixty-three percent of voters say President Donald Trump pushing Ukraine’s leader to investigate Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden is a “serious problem,” according to an ABC News/Ipsos poll released Sunday.
Trump is readying himself to defend against impeachment proceedings, initiated by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week following the release of a transcript between the president and Ukraine’s president in which Trump pressures the European leader to investigate political rival Joe Biden.
A complaint filed by an intelligence officer about Trump’s interactions with the leader of Ukraine was published Thursday. It reads, in part: “In the course of my official duties, I have received information from multiple U.S. Government officials that the president of the United States is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. election.”
The ABC poll said just 17 percent of Americans were surprised by Trump’s actions while 83 percent said they were “not so surprised.”
Additionally, 24 percent said they were following news of Trump’s phone call very closely.
The poll was conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs‘ KnowledgePanelSept. 27–28, 2019, in English and Spanish, among a random national sample of 504 adults.
