Susan Rice on Wednesday ripped President Donald Trump for claiming that the Obama administration paid for the ballistic missiles that hit Iraq bases Tuesday.
"This is another series of despicable lies by President Trump. The fact that three years after taking office he remains obsessed with President Obama shows President Trump's extreme weakness & insecurity,” Obama’s former national security adviser said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports.”
Iran attacked at least two U.S. air bases in Baghdad with more than a dozen ballistic missiles Tuesday night.
Trump on Wednesday said the missiles were “paid for with the funds made available by the last administration," referencing the Iran nuclear agreement.
Rice also said Trump’s call for allies to work together would fail because his administration treats them like “trash.”
“He demanded that Russia, China, the European allies get out of the nuclear weapon deal themselves. What leverage does the president have with Germany, France, the U.K., Russia and China right now?” Mitchell asked Rice.
Rice said, “None.”
Mitchell pressed, “Because?”
Rice said, “We are the ones who withdrew from the deal. We are the ones who have precipitated this cycle of escalation, unfortunately. And we treat our allies under President Trump like trash.”
Additionally, “We don’t give them even a heads-up when we’re about to take dangerous action that put their personnel directly at risk,” Rice said.
“We don’t consult. We don’t concert our efforts. And so why should they simply follow along like sheepish puppies just because President Trump finds himself in a bind and has to give a speech.”
