President Donald Trump, in a string of tweets early Wednesday, attacked growing reports concerning FBI surveillance of his presidential campaign, terming the matter as "Spygate" and declaring that it "could be one of the biggest political scandals in history."
Later, he came back with a two-word tweet on his recurring theme: "WITCH HUNT!"
Earlier in the morning, the president tweeted a message that was tagged to "Fox & Friends."
In it, he noted that former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper himself had used the word spy. However, he called Clapper the "world’s dumbest former Intelligence Head who has the problem of lying a lot."
In a further dig at Clapper, however, the president quoted Clapper, who had used the word "spy" during an Tuesday appearance on "The View."
Clapper on Tuesday had told the daytime talk show that a "spy" was with the campaign to investigate Russian interference, while denying the informant was there to spy on the campaign itself, and that Trump should be happy that person was there, according to RealClearPolitics.
"They were spying on, a term I don't particularly like, but on what the Russians were doing," Clapper said Tuesday. "Trying to understand were the Russians infiltrating, trying to gain access, trying to gain leverage or influence which is what they do."
Tuesday night, Trump also attacked a suspected FBI informant — "spy" — infiltrating his campaign, calling on investigators to "follow the money" and accusing Democrats of working to help Hillary Clinton win.
