Donald Trump was reportedly hit with a $10,000 fine for skipping a hearing over a Trump Tower lobby kiosk's sale of campaign swag in violation of a pact with New York City.
According to
DNAinfo.com, the owner of the Fifth Avenue building, Trump Tower Commercial, removed a 22-foot-long bench to make way for a campaign souvenir stand — and when Department of Buildings officials found out last July, they issued two violations "along with thousands of dollars in fines."
Trump had previously agreed to keep the lobby space clear to the public in exchange for the building department letting him build an additional 200,000 square feet to luxury tower, DNAinfo reports.
After the fines, Trump officials removed the sales counters — they were relocated on a lower level — but the bench was never replaced, DNAinfo reports.
But when Trump lawyers failed to show up for a scheduled hearing on the issue Thursday, a city hearing officer leveled the stiff fine.
In an emailed statement, Trump lawyer Michael Cohen tells the news outlet a scheduling error prevented Trump Tower representatives from appearing at the hearing, and that they'd reschedule.
Trump was
flying to Scotland Thursday on a business trip.
