As polls start to close around the country, an adviser to former President Donald Trump said his chances for victory are higher this year than they were in 2016 or 2020.
Speaking to the New York Post on Tuesday, senior adviser to the Trump 2024 campaign Tim Murtaugh said the polls leading up to this year's Election Day were far better than either of the previous years Trump has run for office. "There's tangible evidence of it. This is just polling wise. Donald Trump has never been in as strong a position as he is now," he told the outlet at a watch party at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in Florida.
Murtaugh noted that the polling from both 2016 and 2020 grossly underestimated Trump's final results and the average polls this year have the former president far closer to Vice President Kamala Harris.
"The last Wall Street Journal poll in 2020 had Joe Biden ahead of Donald Trump by 10. The last Wall Street Journal poll in this race had Donald Trump up by two. I mean, it's just a world, a world of difference. I think people are remembering his presidency more fondly, especially in comparison to Biden/Harris."
