Republicans are solidly supportive of President Donald Trump's handling of his own COVID-19 diagnosis, a new survey showed.

In the Survey Monkey snap poll for Axios released Sunday, just one in 10 respondents say the president responded irresponsibly, with 73% of Democrats and 58% of independents saying he acted irresponsibly. Among Republicans, 88% say he acted responsibly.

The survey suggests the president’s support from the GOP hasn't been hurt by questions raised concerning Trump's commitment to public safety or the well-being of supporters and staff, Axios reported.

"The reality we're in is, how locked in both sides are,"  SurveyMonkey chief research officer Jon Cohen told Axios. “There’s not an indication anything's changed yet.”

In other findings, the survey found:

  • 63% of Republicans said they want presidential campaign events to continue in person; 16% of Democrats agreed.
  • 70% of Democrats said the rest of Biden and Trump campaign events should be virtual, 12% said they should be canceled.
  • 57% of independents want events to be virtual; 18% want them canceled.
  • A majority of Republicans want the Oct. 15 debate to go forward and to take place in person, 55% of Democrats say it should become a virtual event and 25% say it should be canceled.

The survey’s margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
