President Donald Trump’s adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has organized a shakeup in the Trump campaign's leadership following the president’s disappointing rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma last month.
Jeff DeWit has replaced Trump campaign chief operating officer Michael Glassner, DeWit having held the same post in Trump’s previous campaign, according to Axios. Glassner had been in charge of organizing the president’s campaign rallies, but the recent rally in Tulsa, the first Trump rally in several months due to the coronavirus pandemic, fell short of expectations.
“Michael Glassner is moving into the long-term role of navigating the many legal courses we face, including suits against major media outlets, some of which will likely extend beyond the end of the campaign. He is one of the founding members of Team Trump and his dedication to the success of the president is unmatched,” Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh told Politico, adding that this was “not a reaction to Tulsa.”
Sources told Axios that Glassner “didn’t really make many mistakes,” regarding Tulsa.
"He did what he always did, and it just didn't work post-COVID,” a source said.
"I think he knew he was going to take the punishment for this," they continued. "It was on his watch."
Another source said that Glassner was only intended for the “ramp up stage” of the election, and "was never intended to be the chief operating officer for the final stretch."
