The feud between President-elect Donald Trump and Ohio Gov. John Kasich is heating up as both sides battle over control of the state Republican Party, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Trump supporter Jane Timken is challenging Kasich-backed incumbent Matt Borges for the Ohio Republican Party's top spot.
Trump has even been calling some of those able to vote in the race in an effort to convince them to support Timken, according to the newspaper.
"This is the leader-of-the-free-world-to-be, and you would think of all the appointments that he's doing and all the people he's filling his cabinet with and getting ready for the inauguration, why would he take the time out to call me?" the newspaper quotes Greg
Simpson, who received one of the Trump calls.
Despite the call, Simpson, who backed Trump in the presidential election, still plans to vote for Borges.
The newspaper notes both Trump and Kasich waged a war of words while both battled for the GOP presidential nomination during the primaries. The Enquirer points out Kasich refused to endorse Trump or even vote for him.
Borges stood by Kasich and spoke out against Trump before eventually backing him in the general election, the Enquirer reports.
"He has done an outstanding job running a complex organization and has an unparalleled record of winning," Kasich said of Borges
Politico reports Trump has called about a dozen people in support of Timken. He even called back those he was not able to talk to initially rather than leave a voicemail.
The vote for the party chair is scheduled for Friday.
